From Survival to Strength

The way we internalize abuse from childhood can make us vulnerable to emotional and spiritual abuse as we get older, but the JOY of the Lord is our strength and there are many ways to build resilience against oppression and depression. I share what has helped me and I have written a book:
“A Walk Out of the Woods: My Journey Out of Performance-Based Religion”.

A Walk Out of the Woods:

My Journey Out of Performance-Based Religion

by Cindy Wade LeMoine

Have you ever thought you were lost in the woods? You get so turned around that it seems you may never find your way out. All the beauty that drew you into nature, all that buoyed your spirit, takes on an ominous quality…every path looks the same and you are in so deeply that the sun has hidden itself above the trees. It is suddenly darker, and everything feels foreign compared to when you took that first joyful step onto the trail.

You keep your head, though, and eventually find your way back onto the right path, only to discover you were never far from the safety and security of your ultimate destination and all that invokes in you a sense of confidence and peace.

This is where the metaphorical comparison of a walk out of the woods to a journey out of performance-based religion ends. You see, in the woods you keep moving until you recognize a landmark or head in the right direction. You may be working against time, light, or weather. There is a sense of urgency and what you do is of utmost importance.

In relationship with Jesus, though, that frantic posture must cease. It is in His rest that you remain keenly aware of your surroundings. It is as He leads that He walks you out into the light, into the open spaces.

This book is a journaling of my time spent in scripture as I made my way out of performance-based religion and into rest in relationship with my Savior.

I am thankful that God has forgiven me for the heavy burdens that I have placed on others over the years.

I hope you are encouraged!
